ASHTANGA

Ashtanga Vinyasa is the system of yoga developed by Sri K Patthabi Jois. While it has recently become a very hip and trendy style of yoga, it is also a very old yoga path with a tradition that has been practiced for thousands of years in the form that we still follow today. Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a physically demanding movement-oriented practice, yet it offers students an opportunity to explore the benefits of yoga that extend far beyond the physical body. The balance of strength and relaxation, concentration and letting go, discipline and surrender will leave students physically tested but mentally and energetically refreshed.

In Ashtanga adjustments classes,  Sanna will lead students through the traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa Sequence (beginning of primary series) while Kelly adjusts students manually to encourage better alignment and to facilitate deeper work in each asana (posture). Depending on the class we may also begin to extend the sequence in a workshop-style format. Excellent for everyone wishing to deepend their current practice and open to all levels of experience.

It focuses less on flexibility than Ashtangabut is more challenging in terms of strength, balance and endurance. Alighthearted practice done to music, Power Yoga is sure to challengeeven the most experienced yogi. A playful attitude is stronglyrecommended!

VINYASA YOGA

Vinyasa simply means the linking of breath and movement. All classes at Alpine Yoga are vinyasa-based; this class will simply emphasize different kinds of breathing to energize, detoxify or relax the body as we flow through sequences of postures linked with our breath. Morning sessions will focus primarily on waking up the body and getting energy or prana flowing freely as we release blockages and strengthen the body with physical postures; and evening sessions will focus more on grounding postures in the standing sequence, as well as releasing tension, winding down and restoring ourselves both physically and emotionally.

YIN/RESTORATIVE YOGA

Yoga Workshop classes are designed to learn proper technique/alignment in specific postures as well as to answer questions and provide adjustements. The class is not a flowing sequence but a short warm-up followed by in-depth work on a select group of  postures - either yoga basics such as sun salutations, specific topics such as backbending or inversions, or focus on opening a certain area of the body.  Sometimes the topic will be specified on the schedule and otherwise it will be based on requests/questions.
